And here, we are far from that.” The lawyer relies in particular on a 2017 report by the Open Society Foundation, co-authored with Amnesty International, concerning the prison situation in the Netherlands, especially in high-security prisons, including Vught. “They truly depict what we deplore,” insists her colleague, Julia Basile. “And in Mr. Taghi’s case, everything is taken to its extreme.”   » .

We realize that no one was shocked at that party. Everything’s fine! ” quips Julia Basile , the lawyer representing SOS Racisme, which has filed a civil suit. She points out a deep “ divide ” between, on the one hand, her association’s desire to educate both older and younger generations about the fight against racism and antisemitism, and, on the other hand, what the defense presents as a “ bad joke .” “ How many more blackface incidents will we see in France? ” asks Basile, who is requesting €2,000 per defendant for moral damages and €1,000 in additional costs .
